Spring updates – Phase 3 2024

Updates:

 

  1. We would like to remind you that the deadline for submitting your Climate Detectives report is fast approaching!

 

  1. All teams are now invited to attend the National Showcase on the 22nd of April in TUS Athlone, for an opportunity to display your findings to other participating schools, connect with like minded students and present your project to our judging panel for a chance to achieve the national title of Climate Detectives Champions 2024 and WIN the top prize, a fully covered* trip to ESRIN, Italy’s prestigious Earth Observation Centre!

 

Competition details: For the first time ever the European Space Agency will be offering the top ranked Climate Detectives team the thrilling opportunity to win an unforgettable experience, to attend a Learning and Celebration event, fully covered by ESA* to highlight your team’s accomplishments.

The event will be held at ESRIN, ESA’s Earth Observation establishment located in Italy, on 20-21 May 2024.

  • Please note, participation in the competition, for the opportunity to win this prize is optional, all students completing a climate detectives project are invited to showcase and will have their work celebrated on the 22nd of April.
  • To be included in the competition please indicate to ESERO Ireland via form attached if you wish for your school’s project(s) to be considered by our judging panel.

*This prize will support 5 eligible students and 2 teachers. Winning participants must be available to attend events in ESRIN Italy, on 20-21 May 2024.

 

Key dates for teachers:

  1. National submission: We are hoping that all schools can have their projects completed by the 17th of April, including a project summary all of which is to be sent to your advisor in advance of the showcase day.
  2. National showcase event: 22nd of April– Schools will have their posters completed and ready to present to their peers and the judging panel!
  3. ESA submission: 25th April

 

Showcase event details:

Where: TUS Athlone Student Centre (John Count McCormack Sports Hall)
When:  Monday 22ndof April
Arrival: Set up @10:30
Departure: 2.30pm

 

Next step for teachers:

 

  1. Please complete the following form to indicate group attendance at the showcase event on the 22nd of April and if you would like your school to be considered for the Climate Detectives competition by 26th of March- this is critical for event planning- https://forms.office.com/e/pP3WPayWrj

 

  1. Please ensure that your project report is submitted by 17th of April to be eligible for inclusion in the event. As a reminder, the report should include the following sections:

–          Project title

–          Research question

–          Summary of the project

–          Main results and conclusions:

–          Actions to make a difference and help minimise the problem

–          Optional: a link to website/video about the project (max. 3 min).

 

  1. Please ensure that your project poster is ready to present on 22nd of April at the showcase event.

 

  1. Please reach out to your advisor for support should you need assistance with the final elements of the project or poster preparation.
