International Day of Light – ESERO Ireland Activities

Light plays a vital role in our day to day lives, in fact without light from our Sun there would be no life on Earth as we know it.

The International Day of Light celebrates the role light plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy. The celebration will allow many different sectors of society worldwide to participate in activities that demonstrates how science, technology, art and culture can help achieve the goals of UNESCO – building the foundation for peaceful societies. UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture.

To mark the International Day of Light CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory, on behalf of ESERO Ireland, will be hosting an online event surrounding the greatest source of light we have – The Sun. We’ll use  ESERO Ireland’s Sun and Shadows toolkit (and more) to walk you through a fun, free, educational workshop!

The workshop will start on BCO’s dedicated Education YouTube Channel at 10 am on May 16th.
