Teaching Science through inquiry with DPSM & SEAI
Monday 2nd to Friday 6th July 2018

Discover Primary Science & Maths and SEAI are offering places for teachers on a 5 day professional development course in 4 venues throughout Ireland: Dublin (Airfield Dundrum & Rediscovery Centre Ballymun), Tralee IT and NUI Galway from 2nd to 6th July 2017. Includes 1 day tour/visit of Airfield, Rediscovery Centre, Brigit’s Garden and Blennerville Windmill/Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre.

The course explores teaching approaches that develop numeracy skills in an integrated way across the curriculum, specifically through Science and Geography with a focus on inquiry based learning.

Using Space to Teach Science through Inquiry – 3rd to 6th Class – Lough Gur Heritage Centre

Course details: Department of Education and Skills approved Summer Course for Primary School Teachers (participants qualify for 3 EPV days). The European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) Ireland, is offering places for teachers on a 5 day professional development course at the Honey Fitz Theatre, Lough Gur from the 2nd – 6th of July 2018. The course ‘Using Space to Teach Science through Inquiry – 3rd to 6th Class’ explores teaching approaches that develop numeracy skills in an integrated way across the curriculum, specifically through Science and Geography, with an emphasis on the theme of Space. The focus will be on inquiry based learning and how
to use the “DPSM/ESERO Framework of Inquiry.

Junior Rocket Scientists: Space Science as a Cross-Curricular Theme

The European Space Education Office (ESERO) Ireland, and Discover Primary Science & Maths

The objective of the course is to assist participants in using teaching approaches that develop numeracy skills in an integrated way across the curriculum for junior classes.This course will use space as a cross-curricular theme and develop skills in many curricular areas. The course will have an emphasis on inquiry based learning and provide opportunities to apply skills and knowledge to real life situations. School Self Evaluation aims will be covered with an emphasis on evaluating and developing Science Skills

Suitable for Teachers of Junior Level to 2nd class.

ESA Summer and Autumn Teacher Workshops
10 to 13 July 2018 & 4 to 7 October 2018

ESA is organising its 9th Summer Teacher Workshop from 10 to 13 July 2018, as well as its 4th Autumn Teacher Workshop from 4 to 7 October 2018. Both workshops will take place in the Netherlands and are dedicated to European primary and secondary school teachers.

ESA robotics and automation teacher workshops

Primary school teachers from ESA Member and Associate States are invited to apply to robotics and automation workshops to be given at ESA’s ESEC centre located in Belgium. Two robotics and automation workshops for primary school teachers will take place on 22-23 May, 4-5 June.

Engineers Week CPD for Primary Teachers

Science Week CPD for Primary Teachers

This course will show participants how to use inquiry based learning techniques to promote children’s learning and understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Participants will also explore activities that support the theme of Science Week, around the topic of Heat Transfer.  These have been developed from ESA, ESERO and Discover Primary Science and Maths activities.

Since 2009, over 7,000 primary teachers have availed of in-school CPD in over 600 schools as part of the Discover Primary Science and Maths (DPSM) Programme. DPSM is partnering with the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO), allowing us to use space to inspire our next generation of innovators. This year could be your opportunity to avail of CPD if you have not availed of DPSM workshops since 2013/14.

Space Awareness MOOC – Teaching with Space and Astronomy in the Classroom – Registration Now Open

Using the context of space, this MOOC will help understand and put into practice the Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) methodology, learn more about using ICT tools for education, develop teaching strategies to manage diverse classrooms, and promote gender balance. Participants will also learn why and how to introduce space careers to students. The course starts on 5th of September 2016. Teachers can register now at the EUN Academy platform.

Continuous Professional Development Programme of Support 2016/17

Since 2009/10 DPSM has offered in-school CPD to over 6,000 primary teachers in over 500 schools. This year, in partnership with ESERO Ireland, we are offering a programme of science and maths support (including CPD) to your school.
