Participants will also explore activities that support the theme of Engineers’ Week. These have been developed from the Discovery Primary Science and Maths resources. Gravitational waves, those tiny distortions of space time, were first detected in 2015 (a feat which was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics). Bring some of this cutting-edge science to your classroom, with sound and human ears as analogues for these detectors. How well do we hear different noises? Can we always tell where a sound comes from? How can we design a detector to determine where a sound wave has come from?
This course will be run at Blackrock Castle Observatory on Tuesday 8th from 6pm to 7.30 pm
Online on Wednesday 9th February from 4pm to 5.30pm
This course supports the ESERO Engineers Week Resource – Detecting Gravitational Waves
We need a minimum of 15 participants to run the course
