Partial Solar Eclipse Family Fun Day @ Armagh Observatory and Planetarium
To celebrate the partial solar eclipse visible on 12th August, join us at the planetarium for a day of solar-themed activities for all ages.
Get creative with hands-on crafts and interactive space activities, build and blast your own rockets, and enjoy colourful face painting and delicious food stalls. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about this exciting celestial event while taking part in a range of family-friendly activities.
Our fulldome shows will be running from 10.30am until 4pm with rocket launching and exhibition area exploration where you can even dress as an astronaut! At 5pm Observatory Tours will take place (limited availability). You’ll also have the chance to view the partial eclipse from our Astropark, so don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the event first hand.

Space Academy @ Lismore Heritage Centre, Waterford
Join us for an exciting journey into the world of space exploration and innovation!
During our Space Academy, participants will discover the latest in space technology, explore how 3D printing is transforming space missions, and learn how European Space Agency (ESA) satellites help us understand and monitor our planet. With our Space Academy taking place alongside the upcoming solar eclipse, we’ll also explore the science behind eclipses, take part in a hands-on eclipse demonstration, and discuss how to observe this incredible event safely. Every participant will receive a pair of solar eclipse glasses to take home, so they can enjoy the eclipse safely.

Sun, Moon and Paws @ Dublin Zoo
A family workshop for children aged 5 and up. Bring the whole crew to the zoo for a magical day where sun, moon and claws all come out! We will make solar viewers, observe the animals, and prepare your family for the biggest cosmic event of the year! Booking is essential.

Eclipse Event @ Thomastown Scouts, Kilkenny
An evening in our scout den to view the eclipse and learn more about it. We have many youth members and adult members interested in STEM and space.

Solar Eclipse Viewing and Live-Stream with Special Guest, Ronan Newman, @ Wild Nephin National Park-Ballycroy Visitor Centre, Mayo
Join the Mayo Dark Sky Park/Wild Nephin National Park Team at Ballycroy Visitor Centre on the 12th of August from 5:00-9:00PM for an in-person observation of the sunset solar eclipse as it reaches near-totality (94%).
Event includes live-stream of total solar eclipse, an informative presentation by Ronan Newman (Found of Irish Astronomy Week), and additional eclipse activities.
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with nature and the cosmos, we will not get to view another solar eclipse like this in Ireland until 2090! Bring your friends and family, grab your eclipse glasses (provided), and enjoy the natural beauty of this incredible event!

A spectacular solar eclipse watching event, in Athenry Park for Scouts aged 6-18 with 19th Galway Athenry Scouts.

Eclipse26 @ DIAS Dunsink Observatory, Dublin
Join us at DIAS Dunsink Observatory for a very special eclipse viewing event. During the event we will have telescope viewing (weather permitting), opportunities to talk to our solar physics experts, activities for children and more!
All attendees will also receive their own eclipse glasses to safely view the eclipse! Thank you for your donation supporting the running of Visitor Nights at Dunsink Observatory. Please note that cancellations within 48 hours of the event will not be eligible for a refund.

Eclipse26 @ Birr Castle Demesne, Offaly
Eclipse26 at Birr Castle Demesne is a public engagement event celebrating the 2026 Total Solar Eclipse. Visitors will experience a deep partial eclipse (92–98% coverage) through safe viewing, expert talks, and interactive activities in a historic scientific setting, with live-streaming available if weather conditions are unfavourable.

Come join us at the Portershed, Market St. for a viewing of the solar eclipse!
This isn’t just another eclipse – it’ll be the most coverage seen from the UK and Ireland since the total eclipse of 1999 – almost 96% coverage. You won’t get a second chance any time soon, as the next total solar eclipse this complete visible from Ireland isn’t due until 2090!
In the event of Galway weather, we’ll have a indoor live stream on the big screen. It’s a free event, and everyone is welcome — but space are limited, so we strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

See the Eclipse @ Knocknagrave Environmental Centre, Monaghan
On Wednesday, August 12, Ireland will experience its most striking solar eclipse in nearly three decades!
The partial solar eclipse will occur as the moon travels between the earth and the sun, obscuring roughly 90% . Come along to Knocknagrave Environmental Centre where we will observe the astronomical phenomenon from 6pm in safety.

Primary Space Workshop, with Dublin South City Partnership @ The Rediscovery Centre, Dublin
A hands-on Primary Space Workshop for young people, delivered in partnership with Dublin South City Partnership as part of their summer programme. Participants will explore space, learn how to use eclipse glasses, and get to take a pair home!

Eclipse @ Maynooth, Kildare
Maynooth University’s Department of Physics will host a Solar Eclipse Evening on Wednesday 12th August from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The event will be a viewing of the deepest solar eclipse visible from Ireland in decades. This free family friendly public event combines safe eclipse viewing with a series of accessible talks, astronomy and physics demonstrations and a children’s art workshop.

Solar Eclipse Viewing in Cork with MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory, Cork
If you’re in Cork on the day, MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory in collaboration with Cork City Council’s Night Time Economy initiative will be hosting a number of events locally from 18:00 – 20:30 with free solar eclipse glasses (kindly donated by Rochester Museum and Science Center) available for safe viewing and a team of ambassadors to answer your queries.

Watch the Sky Go Dark, Together — A Family Eclipse Watch Party @ Foresters Hall Dundalk, Louth
On Wednesday 12th August, Ireland will see its deepest partial solar eclipse since 1999 and we’re marking it with a free family watch party at Foresters’ Hall, Dundalk.
Expect a short talk on what’s happening in the sky and how to view it safely, a chance to meet astronomer Brendan Owens and his solar telescope, family activities, and a free pair of certified eclipse glasses for everyone. If it’s cloudy, we’ve got a live stream of the eclipse from Spain as backup, so no one misses out either way.
It’s completely free, but booking is essential — numbers are capped by how many glasses we have. One booking covers your whole family; just make sure to fill in the question on the form for your total headcount, including kids.
AGED 7+: It’s best suited to children aged 7 and up — we’ll likely be heading outside to view the eclipse, and it’s not a cordoned-off area, so it’s not a safe setup for very young children.
